The Ingham Conservation District offers several species of conifers during their Fall tree sale. They have seedling and transplant varieties that include firs, spruce, pine and tamaracks. The order deadline is Sept. 18th if mailing in the paper form. The deadline is Sept. 21st if purchasing through their online store. Pickup trees Sept. 22 & 23.
Fall can be an ideal time to plant. Air temperatures tend to be more stable and soil moisture more predictable, both of which can enhance root development. Fall planting is most successful in porous soils that are not prone to frost heave. Trees are bare root stock.

Fall is a great time to plant Native Plants! The Harris Nature Center will be hosting a Fall Native Plants Sale on Saturday, October 7th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Native Plant Sale includes Michigan native shrubs, sedges, grasses, wildflowers, ferns and complete garden kits. All proceeds benefit HNC. The native plants are grown locally at Designs by Nature in Laingsburg, Go Grow Plant Natives in Charlotte and Michigan Woodland Wildflowers & Ferns in Haslett.

Putting native plants back into the buffer or vegetation strip helps to maintain ponds, streams and wetlands in their natural state by filtering out pollutants, providing habitats for wildlife and securing stream banks against erosion.
